Bridging Gaps for Girls in the Digital World

Table of Contents

In 2021, the Generation Equality Forum introduced five-year plans to drive stronger actions against gender inequality, coinciding with the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the pandemic has boosted the use of digital platforms for education, work, and social connections, approximately 2.2 billion people under 25 still lack home internet access.

Girls face even greater challenges. The global internet gender gap increased from 11% in 2013 to 17% in 2019. In the world’s least developed countries, this disparity stands at around 43%.

The issue extends beyond internet access. Girls are less likely than boys to own digital devices, use technology, develop skills, and pursue careers in tech-related fields. Addressing these inequalities across regions and generations is essential to bringing about a digital revolution that includes everyone.

Digital Generation. Our Generation.

Girls understand their digital challenges and what it takes to unlock their potential, enabling free expression, joy, and limitless possibilities. By expanding these opportunities, we can empower today’s girls to become tomorrow’s tech leaders.
