Maney Publishing, an independent academic publisher, was established in 1997, evolving from W.S. Maney & Son Ltd, a specialist typesetting and printing business that started in Leeds in 1900. The shift from printing to publishing grew out of Maney’s long-term connections with academic organizations and learned societies. Its oldest partnership was with the English Goethe Society, a relationship that began in 1947. Other partnerships followed, including one with the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining, which began publishing journals and books with Maney in 2001. To expand its reach, Maney Publishing (USA) was launched in 2007 to work with academic groups in North America.
Taylor & Francis Group has acquired Maney Publishing
Taylor & Francis Group was always known for producing peer-reviewed journals in fields such as materials science and engineering, health sciences, and the humanities. It also worked closely with universities, scholarly societies, and professional organizations.
By 2014, Maney was publishing more than 150 journals. It also provided an open-access option for authors through its MORE OpenChoice program. Maney had offices in Leeds and London in the UK and Boston and Philadelphia in the US.
In 2015, Maney was acquired by Taylor & Francis, a division of Informa. Its journals are now hosted on the Taylor & Francis Online platform. Taylor & Francis Group is currently working to make the transition of Maney’s books and journals as smooth as possible.
Maney’s respected collection includes academic books and journals covering Materials Science and Engineering, the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Health Sciences. These publications align well with Taylor & Francis’s existing subject areas. Many titles are produced in collaboration with academic societies, institutions, and universities.
Maney’s journals are now hosted on the Taylor & Francis Online platform during a period of dual hosting. Starting from 1st March 2016, visitors to the Maney Online website will be automatically redirected to Taylor & Francis Online.
